Construction of the 450MW Temane combined-cycle gas-fired power project in the Inhambane province in Mozambique got underway in January 2022.
The total cost of developing the facility is estimated at US$652.3 million.
The independent power project is 85% owned by Mozambique Power Invest (MPI) and 15% by Sasol Africa. MPI is owned by the UK’s Globeleq (76%) and Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) (24%).
Spain’s TSK is the turnkey contractor for the project, while Germany’s Siemens supplied the five turbines.
The plant will provide power under a 25-year concession to some 1.5 million households, contributing about 14% of Mozambique’s electricity supply. It is due to start up later this year.
As of April 2024, engineering progress was at 96.5%.
Natural gas will be supplied from the Pande and Temane fields operated by Sasol.
